Green Camp 1971

In 1971, when I was fifteen, I hitchhiked on my own to Copenhagen and spent six weeks in a hippy camp called Green Camp. I managed to build up a life there; I had many friends, got a job in the shop/canteen and stayed on till far after my school in Holland had started.
Life was great. We hung around the camp day and night, meeting people, talking, playing the bongo's , passing around the old chillum. 'Love brother' or 'Peace sister' we said when we met strangers. For many, certainly for me, it was the beginning of a new world.
The trip I then made has stayed with me for the rest of my life, but I've never been able to find any information about Green Camp, nor have I ever met people who stayed there (I quickly lost contact with the friends I made there).
Recently I have been trying to find information about Green Camp on the internet. I could not find anything, but for an article in an issue of the American magazine Saturday Review (Sept. 1971) that was offered for sale on EBay. I bought it and the article and the two accompanying photos of Green Camp, were the first that I saw of the old hippy camp after all these years. You can find them below.
Is there anyone out there who visited Green Camp in 1971? Who recognizes these photos? Who has stories, pictures to share? I would very much like to get into contact with anyone who does. Geplaatst door Meile op 10:43 0 reacties Abonneren op: Berichten (Atom) Green Camp 1971

I was at Green Camp in 1971, 1973 and then I worked there for many years and am still friends with a lot of the people I met there, including some from the collegium. Guess we all decided to grow old together even tho we all live in different countries, we're still in touch

I was at Green camp for two weeks in 1971, the year Cristiana started. I came back in 1972 and stayed for 2 1/2 months. I wasted a two month student rail pass because I ended up working at Green Camp serving breakfast, brown bread and cheese in the morning and brown rice and vegetables in the evening.
I hung out with the Danes who were doing alternate service to the army. I know that a Dutchman who married a Danish girl was running Green camp based on the Amsterdam sleep-ins.
In 1972, If you remember, the bathrooms were in buildings labelled His, Hers and Theirs. I was responsible for switching the His and Her signs. With everyone confused, the all became Theirs shared bathrooms. I washed a lot of sexy woman's backs showering next to them and ......well I leave that to your imagination.
I remember Birgitte who may have been married to The Dutchman (Klaus?) I remember the trips to Christiana to buy hash, Indian temple balls, Nepalese and Kefer. I made myself the official chillum preparer and the official chillum starter, to get it going. What a cool tome. Best days of my life.

I just found this Blogger - finally after searching several times last 12 years.
Yes, - "the best days of my life" this I agree with. I worked 3 summers at Green Camp 1971-73 and have 40 photos from there, collected 5 newspaper articles, many documents, so in 2007 I published 2 books (A4-size) on the subject: one in Danish 55 pages, and an English Summary 32 pages.
Green Camp was managed 1971-72 by Klaas Muizelaar, and 1993 by Bjarke S. Andersen (me).
If any of you others here are interested in seeing photos from that time I can make an FacebookGroup, f.ex. "Green Camp, Copenhagen 1971-73". Just send me PersonalMessage on FB "Bjarke S.Andersen".

Now I made a Google-Group named "Green Camp Copenhagen 1971-73" plus a Facebook-group by same name. There you can see many photos and a article of GreenCamp´s history.
I realy hope you read this !
